The project area comprises part of the Nyanzian supergroup forming the Sukuma land Greenstone Belt (SGB).
The belt displays two concentric, intermittently developed bands of supra-crustal greenstone rocks.
These are enclosed and surrounded by granitoid intrusions and westernmost part of the megastructure is covered uncomformably by Proterozoic rocks.
The belt is approximately 200 km in length and 100 km wide with its long axis trending E-W and covers an area of ~ 20000 km2.

Extensive artisanal mining activity
The region has present of mines (Geita Gold Mine) which are operational.
Small scale miners are available in the region with licenses granted and are operational.

Presence of Gold anomalies
A number of grab samples including test pit soils, anti-hills soils and normal surficial materials were taken, grab sampling included digging a few test pits with depths up to 2m below ground.
